Update: It's been a while!

Hello All,

It has been a long time since I have posted anything on this blog. So, I am going to update you on what all has been going on in my professional life since the last post.

I have since graduated from my undergraduate institution, UAB. I spent the summer after graduating working at the Birmingham Zoo. I went on 15 interviews over the summer in 2013. The last interview I went to I received a job offer. I started my first teaching job on the 3rd day of classes at Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, AL.

My band students were amazing as any school. However, the other students in the school as well as the area of the school was not for me. There were several instances where I had to file police reports due to the activities at the school that were out of my or anyone else's control. As a result of this, I applied for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship with Auburn University.

I got accepted to Auburn and started my assistantship during June of 2014. I was the only new TA during that year. There were 3 returning TAs that worked fairly well together. I learned a great deal my first year and spent much of it stressing over little details that would go unnoticed. In may the 3 other TAs graduated and I was left by myself to "hold down the fort." I worked basically alone for a month or more getting things ready for the next year in addition to taking over half of the course work required for my degree.

I got overworked and stressed and let some things slip away when the next school year started. As a result, I ended my tenure as a TA in the month of October and began looking for jobs again. I spent 3 months without much luck of finding a job. I even considered no longer being a teacher and settling for a different job.

Much to my amazement, I got asked for an interview during the last week of school in December 2015. I was offered a position at New Hope High School that would start in January. So, once again, I moved across the state and started teaching a new group of students in January.

This school is amazing! The students are wonderful! I hope I can stay with this school for the next 30+ years. As always, if you have any questions please let me know.
